MaidenMonstruous update : The Plot


First of all, happy new year. Hope 2022 is a good year for you. For me, it seems to be starting alright.

I didn't update during December because of the holiday, so a part of the work I intended for December was put this month. And it ended up being a pretty large update compared to the others. 

The plot :

The major progress of the update. While this isn't a full story, I built most of the systems required to do so :

- I added dialogues sequences, thanks to the Dialogic plugin. These dialogues can trigger events on the level, like spawning enemies.

- I added a level selection option... albeit for only two levels. 

- I added a data saving system, so the player's progression can be kept. For now, it's to know if the player can access the city level, but the system is also already made to memorize unlocked characters & other levels (there's just only 1 character now). 

Player's control :

The second major improvement of the game was the adjustment of the character movements. I still felt Outstanding Outsider turned around too quickly. So I decided to use a similar system to the one I use for the enemies to adjust her trajectory: an empty item that gradually turns in the same direction as her, and that is used for the trajectory. 

That way, while the player can quickly turn to face a new direction, the momentum doesn't immediately follow, and they'll keep some inertia. 

The UI :

Another change was in the UI. 

- Changed a bit the player's HUD so it shows how far the basic attack is charged.

- I added some UI elements to show which enemy is being targeted by the auto-aim. 


Anyway, that's this month's update. Next time I'll try to Polish the new level, start working on a second character and expand the story and the number of levels. See you soon, and I hope you enjoy the game.
